In today’s slant toward minimalistic homes, window curtains have unfortunately taken a back seat. Arguably the most prolific of window coverage has become the blind. Whether it be venetian, or vertical slats, to cover ones window has become an art form today.
Remember what our window coverage was in the old days? Drapes that weighed a tonne, with meters of material hanging from heavy rod covers. It was nice in it’s time, but today the saying of “less is more” is very apt. The less material you use on your windows, the more money you save.
It can be a daunting task when you are suddenly landed with a house that has huge windows. How are you going to cover them without breaking the bank? Well you need to address three main problems before you do anything – sunlight, safety and privacy.
Privacy can be solved by keeping a curtain drawn at all times. Or, you could have a look at when it is most likely that someone can see in, and draw the curtains accordingly. But, with a busy life style one forgets to close an exposed window, so it stays open.
Having a window that exposes a room all day would not be wise for safety reasons as well. You could consider installing a shutter type unit onto the window and have the small slats tilted at a particular angle. This way you can see out, be no one can see in. Another option is to have a one way film glued onto the actual glass, which will give you the same effect.
There is nothing so wonderful than having gorgeous sunlight streaming into ones home. We love it especially on cold winder days. But when you want to sleep just that extra hour, you are bombarded with the sun’s rays.
To stop sunlight from streaming in, you need not buy expensive material ‘ your window curtains just have to be lined with a heavy backing. Your problems will be solved immediately by following few easy steps.
