A Roller garage door is a package of comfort and ease for any home, especially for the aged and the disabled. A roller garage door saves you from the trouble of walking all the way to the door just to operate it and hence gives a feeling of comfort with added security.
A roller garage door is a slatted door. They are very easy to assemble. From a technical point of view, roller garage doors have a similar construction as regular rollers. They consist of lamellas, interconnected on flexible canvas. The door moves on a guide and is wound on a shaft, embodied in a protective box over the opening of the garage. It usually rolls into a casing. Such doors rise vertically and they do not “kick out”, thus they are an ideal option for homes with a short driveway.
A good garage door will also protect you from harsh weather conditions, depending on the material it is made out of. Some materials add to the strength, and some make a moderately strong door. A roller garage door provides good insulation, keeping your garage warmer during winter.
Roller garage doors are very quiet during operation and this makes them the ideal choice if silence is your priority. Some roller garage doors even stop and reverse their downward motion if they sense an obstruction in the way. This is done via a special sensor positioned at the top of the garage door.
However, when choosing your garage door, make sure that your garage has enough headroom (available vertical space above the opening) to install such a door. If your opening does not have enough available vertical space, you are risking ending up with a vastly reduced height in the opening, not allowing for a larger vehicle to pass through the opening of your garage.
As compared to other types of garage doors such as sectional doors, roller doors are better because they are very light weight and have a much less complicated panel. Hence, the chances of an unfortunate accident occurring is greatly minimized.
Any roller garage door comes with a remote control, which you can keep either on you or in your car. When approaching the door, you press a button on the remote control, and the door opens by the time you reach your garage. You drive in and press the button on the remote again to close the door.
When deciding to choose an automated garage door, do remember to arrange for back up in case of a power cut. Keep additional batteries or power backup with you so that in the event of a power outage, you can still operate your garage door.
Author Adam Stranton is very knowledgeable about roller garage doors and about many other types of sectional roller garage doors.
